Beercast #54 – Range Brewing Showcase 2

Beercast #54 – Range Brewing Showcase 2

January 8, 2024 Off By Border Barrels

The Border Barrel boys come full circle, celebrating podcast beer number 100 with a return to Range brewing!
12 months ago we embarked on a brewery showcase journey with the intention of learning about the great independent breweries of Australia (and a little bit of the world).
Thanks to these legendary beer merchants we can now distinguish between certain hops and have fallen in love with new beer styles we’d previously (and foolishly) ignored.
To honour beer number 100 of our unique rating system, we dive deep into the statistics to find our individual and collective favourites along the way, with some surprising results.
You’ll have to tune in to find out which beer was the one that raised the bat, but Range indirectly supplied us with 3 absolute epics!
Thanks to Range, The Lane Cellars, and most importantly everybody who has joined us on this journey so far!
Cheers to the next 100!

Power Trip DDH West Coast IPA

Power Trip is a brand new double dry-hopped West Coast which we’ve bombed with an extra large helping of Simcoe, Mosaic and Citra, as well as Cryo versions of Citra and Mosaic. What we have here is a super punchy pine and citrus bomb with a wicked undertone of the finest dankness. The grist provides and ultra lean and clean body with a stunning clarity. A whole-palate bitterness hits upfront and flows all the way back only to fade perfectly into ripe citrus fruits, fresh pine needles and just the right amount of dank resinous bitterness.

In Bloom DIPA

In Bloom is a brand new Double IPA loaded with Citra, Galaxy and Mosaic. Arguably the holy trinity of new-school brewing, we put these hops on a pedestal for a reason – they absolutely POP in this DIPA. It’s all tropical fruit juice on the nose and palate. Orange zest, key lime, papaya and mango pulp. The mouthfeel is thicc and sticky, coating your whole palate with every sip. Deceptively crushable, this takes us back to harvest this year when all the hops were in bloom.

Morning Ritual Pastry Stout

Morning Ritual is a pastry stout that has fast become a house favourite for us. Brewed with rich chocolate malts, oats for body and a touch of lactose for creaminess. For this batch we conditioned on Tahitian vanilla beans then toasted coconut for added layers of complexity and decadence. The mouthfeel is thick, creamy, lush and smooth with a welcome sweetness and warmth. On the finish, a lingering coconut and chocolate lushness with a balancing hint of roasted bitterness.
