Beercast #43 – Mountain Monk Brewers Interview @ West Peak Hotel, Mount Beauty
The final stop on our trek up Beer Mountain lands us at the West Peak Hotel in beautiful Mount Beauty!
We spent an afternoon tasting beers and shooting the cool winter breeze with our new friends at Mountain Monk Brewers.
Punky, Mick and Steph talk us through the rich history of the unique venue, the origins of their beer journeys, and give us a preview of things to come with an advanced taster of their coffee milk stout!
We felt as though we’d known these legends for years, which I’m sure will be quite evident throughout our conversation.
Plus, their hypothetical beer and music festival line-up certainly tickled the fancies of our tastes!
Thank-you to the team at Mountain Monk and the West Peak Hotel for their humbling generosity.
This is just the beginning of what we hope will be an ongoing collaborative relationship between the Monks and the Border Barrels boys.

Dark Ale
A malted dark ale designed to be enjoyed again and again in the cooler months. With roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes, along with earthy flavour tones and a hint of orange from the beer’s hops, this dark has plenty of flavour for a mid strength ale.
Hops: Centennial, East Kent Goldings & Pacifica
Malts: Pale, Dark Crystal, Caramunich & Carafa 1
IBU: 25
4% ABV
IPA
Dark amber in colour with hints of honey, toffee, bread and a good thump of caramel malt. Not typical with modern IPAs, the strong malt backbone is complemented by the carefully selected earthy and citrus flavours of the hops.
Hops: Centennial, Citra, Simcoe & Amarillo
Malts: Maris Otter Pale, Munich & Caramunich
IBU: 46
6% ABV
Ekuanot IPA
Pronounced ek-wa-not (well, we think so!), this bright orange India Pale Ale is designed to showcase a new favourite hop of the brewers. Generous whirlpool and dry hop additions give orange and herbal flavours, a stone fruit aroma with a peel and resin-like bitterness, amongst a balanced malt bill, to champion our Ekuanot.
Hops: Ekuanot, Centennial, Citra & Simcoe
Malts: Maris Otter, Munich & Caramunich
IBU: 48
5.6% ABV

Includes Lactose
