Beercast #42 – Mountain Culture Beer Co. Tap Takeover @ Beer Deluxe Albury
When starting this little beer journey, you could have knocked us over with a coriander leaf if you told us we’d be interviewing Mountain Culture for a Beer Deluxe tap takeover event.
Well… consider us floored by a famously Mexican condiment!
Sales superstar Jonny not only kept up with our typical motor-mouthed banter, he damn well eclipsed all of us for insight, opinion and banter on all things Mountain Culture and the wider craft beer scene.
Along for the ride was a tasting paddle consisting of 2 limited release IPAs, GABS hottest 100 winner Status Quo, a Double Red IPA and classic Moon Dust stout.

Status Quo Pale Ale
Voted Australia’s #1 beer in GABS Hottest 100 of 2022!
Status Quo is a juicy New England Pale Ale. Made for hop lovers with massive late and dry hop additions, it’s full flavoured and more tropical than the Hawaiian ukulele orchestra.
5.2% ABV
SubZero – DDH IPA
Take everything you think you know about the unique complexity of New Zealand grown hops and dial the intensity up to 11. We’ve taken what we learnt from using Freestyle Farms Motueka SubZero Hop Kief, a liquid lupulin extract, in our Double NEIPA – Void Of Form – and translated that to a drier, more sessionable DDH IPA.
This time we’ve paired the Motueka SubZero Hop Kief with Nelson Sauvin SubZero Hop Kief to amplify the floral sauvignon blanc aroma and flavours of pink grapefruit, white nectarine, lemon and lime with some deep, dank undertones.
We’re very proud of how restrained we’ve been with the ABV to make it full of flavour, extra creamy and endlessly sessionable.
6.6% ABV
Balloon Animals – Oat Cream IPA
For this special Oat Cream IPA, we used the freshest Peacherine hops we could find at the 2023 NZ hop harvest from our friends at Freestyle Farms. We paired them with a crazy delicious amount of Madagascan vanilla for a creamy, hazy, flavour bomb. We kegged it and took it around Australia to serve at GABS festivals and the response was so positive from the punters (especially towards the end of the sessions for some reason) that we decided we had to get it into the can specifically for you to enjoy. We hope you do!

Double Red IPA
One of our signature beers and extremely popular in the taproom. This indulgent ale is so well-rounded you’d think it was drawn with a compass. Clean citrus and tropical fruits dance around thick candied malt you could almost chew.
8% ABV
Moon Dust Stout
A sessionable stout we made for misty mountain days and long nights by the fire. Rich cocoa and coffee notes rise above its smooth, creamy caramel body leaving space for only a hint of residual bitterness.
It’s a taproom favourite, so we’ve made it part of our core range.
