Beercast #22 – Range Brewing (Debut of Border Barrels Beer Review System)
This week we decided to try something different and start tasting and reviewing beers from the same brewery. First cab off the rank, we tasked ourselves to taste and review some of the brilliance that is Range Brewing.
We put our BRAND NEW Border Barrels rating system to the test, exploring the intricacies and face belting flavour explosions, as well as the visual and textual arts unique to each beer.
The lineup consisted of:
Living the Dream IPA
Living The Dream is a brand new IPA which is one part of a two part series. This series aims to highlight how changing something as simple as the yeast strain can drastically impact the final beer. Living The Dream is fermented with our house hazy yeast strain and dry-hopped with a Simcoe heavy lineup that features Simcoe Cryo Hops™, Citra LUPOMAX, Simcoe, Citra and Galaxy. And what a lineup it is! Notes of soft pineapple, juicy citrus fruits and a distinctly Galaxy passionfruit finish. This mouthfeel and overall balance of this one is extremely soft which allows ultimate sessionability without compromising on beautiful hop expression or signature Range flavour.

Another Day in Paradise California IPA
Another Day In Paradise is a brand new Cali IPA which is one part of a two part series. This series aims to highlight how changing something as simple as the yeast strain can drastically impact the final beer. Another Day In Paradise is fermented with our house West Coast strain and dry-hopped with a Simcoe heavy lineup that features Simcoe Cryo Hops™, Citra LUPOMAX, Simcoe, Citra and Galaxy. This is a beautiful hop combo for this style of beer! The lean Pilsner malt base brings enough body to support the beer and it’s ABV but ultimately just allows the hops to sing! We’ve got all kinds of zest going on with this beer. The palate and aroma are brimming with bright orange citrus characteristics that bring zest for days.

Double Dripping in Green: Chinook, Citra + El Dorado West Coast DIPA
Double Dripping In Green: Chinook, Citra + El Dorado is our first iteration of a West Coast style in our Double Dripping series. This beer is big and bold both in it’s aromas and flavors. We’re hit with big notes of grapefruit, pine, sticky orange bitterness, stonefruit and a hint of pineapple. The mouthfeel is full and saturating, with a resinous stick that coats the palate. There is an upfront bitterness that while is assertive, is not overpowering and allows the hops to shine through bright flavours also.
